What do you get the football fan that has everything? One genuinely big hitter is this brilliant Barnsley Football Book, which tracks the team’s history through reprints of original reports – some of which has rarely been seen!
Covering a cup win many moons ago, to a recent run of giant-killings, this Barnsley Football Book includes all of the Tykes finest moments from 1910 onwards. Since the team were founded in 1887, Barnsley have been busy winning momentous matches and birthing some of the greatest players over the last 100 years.
This football book picks up Barnsley’s fortunes in 1910, during their successful FA Cup semi-final against Everton. It goes on to cover their Cup Final success two years later against West Brom, as well as the 1915 reshuffle of the top leagues that saw the Tykes controversially miss out on promotion to the First Division.
As you’d expect, the proceeding decades are all covered in depth, right up to the end of last season. So, you can also look forward to reliving, through reprints of original reports and newspaper coverage, the club’s famous FA Cup giant-killing run of 2007/08.

Barnsley FC was founded in 1887. The football club endured years of financial difficulty before it finally became established in the Second Division. The Tykes won the FA Cup in 1912 and continued to build towards top flight football. However, they were cruelly denied promotion in 1922 due to goal difference. After decades of mixed results, Barnsley returned to form in the 1990s, winning promotion to the Premiership in 1997. After enjoying top flight football for the first time in the club’s history, the Tykes hit top form once again in 2008 with a remarkable FA Cup campaign. Barnsley beat Liverpool and defending champions Chelsea in consecutive rounds en route to the semi-final.
A Barnsley Gift Book can be an inspired present for a fan of the Tykes. It is unique, smartly presented and filled with fascinating newspaper reports on the history of the club. Being able to personalise this Barnsley Football Book makes the gift even more special and shows the thought that has gone into buying it. The present will also prove to be a terrific addition to a supporter’s Barnsley memorabilia collection.
This Barnsley Football Book opens with coverage of the Tykes’ 3-0 win over Everton in the 1910 FA Cup semi-final, and goes on to cover many of the great games through the decades of the 20th Century and the present era.
Early top stories in this fascinating Barnsley Football Book include the 1910 FA Cup Final against Newcastle United and winning the FA Cup in 1912 against West Bromwich Albion. The Gift Books also cover tremendous performances such as the 7-0 hammering of West Ham in 1919, the 5-0 thrashing of Derby County in 1922 and the 7-1 domination of Charlton in 1958. You can read about a record home crowd of 40,245 witnessing Barnsley beat Stoke City 2-1 in 1936 and the Tykes’ promotion to Division Three in 1979. The Barnsley Books also incorporate reports on the joy of promotion to the Premiership in 1997.
