Personalised Barnsley Football Book - Gift Details

Football aficionados are a funny sort. To non-fans, it’s purely a sport, but to enthusiasts of the beautiful game it’s like a religion. And as with religion, there comes absolutely commitment – football fans are thoroughly faithful to the core. So what on earth do you buy them for their birthday or Christmas?

One genuinely big hitter is this brilliant Barnsley Football Book, which tracks the team’s history through reprints of original reports.

Covering a cup win many moons ago, to a recent run of giant-killings, this Barnsley Football Book includes all of the Tykes finest moments from 1910 onwards.

This football book picks up Barnsley’s fortunes in 1910, during their successful FA Cup semi final against Everton. It goes on to cover their Cup Final success two years later against West Brom, as well as the 1915 reshuffle of the top leagues that saw the Tykes controversially miss out on promotion to the First Division. As you’d expect, the proceeding decades are all covered in depth, right up to the end of last season. So you can also look forward to reliving, through reprints of original reports and newspaper coverage, the club’s famous FA Cup giant-killing run of 2007/08.

All the articles are printed on luxury paper and independently cut and bound in a hardback book.

Now available with colour print option for coverage from 2006 onwards.

Enjoy a Newspaper History of the Tykes

Barnsley FC was founded in 1887. The football club endured years of financial difficulty before it finally became established in the Second Division. The Tykes won the FA Cup in 1912 and continued to build towards top flight football. However, they were cruelly denied promotion in 1922 due to goal difference. After decades of mixed results, Barnsley returned to form in the 1990s, winning promotion to the Premiership in 1997. After enjoying top flight football for the first time in the club’s history, the Tykes hit top form once again in 2008 with a remarkable FA Cup campaign. Barnsley beat Liverpool and defending champions Chelsea in consecutive rounds en route to the semi-final.

Finally – Did You Know?

  • Barnsley, originally called "Barnsley St. Peters", was a founder member of the Sheffield League in 1892.
  • Barnsley FC joined the Second Division in 1898, eleven years after the football club was first formed. The Tykes have since spent more time in the Division Two than any other football team in England.
  • The Tykes were promoted to the Premiership in 1997 after finishing as runners-up in the league.
  • Barnsley played in the last ever play-off final to be held at the old Wembley.
  • Kayode Odejayi scored the only goal in Barnsley’s famous victory over Chelsea in the 2008 FA Cup quarter-final. His contribution was even more impressive considering he had been booed off the field in the previous league game, following a particularly poor performance.
