The one and only Cottagers were formed in 1879. From mammoth victories to tragic losses, Fulham has since upheld a serious football legacy. Now, major fans of the team can uncover the team’s history from the last 100 years, with reports and pages of newspaper coverage to reminisce.
Picking up Fulham’s fortunes in 1908 – following their FA Cup quarter final win over Manchester United – this book chronicles the club’s ups and downs, before concluding at the end of last season.
Although the Cottagers have never won a major honour, the club’s history still makes for a very interesting read. The majority of their success came during the ’60s and then under Mohamed Al-Fayed’s current chairmanship which began in ’97. And it’s all here.
What’s more, because this football book uses reprints of original newspaper reports, it’s also the perfect way to recapture the magic of legends like George Cohen, Bobby Robson, Alan Mullery and the club’s greatest ever player, Johnny Haynes, who appeared no less than 658 times for the club, scoring 158 goals in the process.

Fulham FC was formed in 1879 at a local church Sunday school. The club played its first official match seventeen years later at Craven Cottage. In the 1960s, crowds of up to 30,000 people flocked to the stadium to watch Fulham play top flight football. Although the Cottagers slipped out of the First Division towards the end of the decade, Fulham brought joy back to the fans in 1975 by reaching the FA Cup final. The Cottagers fought financial difficulty throughout the subsequent decades. They were eventually rescued when Mohamed Al Fayed became chairman of Fulham in 1997. A remarkable turnaround occurred at the club and the Cottagers returned to the top flight in 2001. When Fulham struggled to stay up in 2008, Al Fayed employed Roy Hodgson as manager. Hodgson led the club to safety and Fulham went on to qualify for European football in the following season.
