Plymouth Argyle Football Book - Gift Details

Give a Plymouth Argyle fan the ability to experience again their team’s latest wins in addition to every other high and low that went before it – going all the way back to 1929. It’s a history of Plymouth Argyle through newspaper reports from the Daily Mirror.

Your fan of The Pilgrims can now read all about their top team’s rich history through newspaper coverage, written by reporters who were present at the match at that time, including the famous League and Cup wins, memorable games and the stars themselves – past and present. These stories draw from the UK’s largest newspaper archive of the last 100 years, so the reader can get a real feel for the way things were to help bring their memories alive.

Starting in 1929 and concluding at the end of last season, this football book follows Plymouth’s ups and downs, as well as looking back at the headlines made by the club’s best ever players.

Things kick off with Argyle’s Third Division South title-winning season in 1929, and include further league-winning campaigns in 1952, 1959, 2002 and 2004. The 2002 campaign, in particularly, was a memorable one as the Pilgrims amassed over 100 points in beating Joe Kinnear’s Luton to top spot. It was a victory made all the sweeter after Kinnear’s derogatory comments aimed at certain Argyle players. Titles aside, this book uses reprints of original newspaper reports to cover the club’s cup runs, including their 1984 foray to the FA Cup semis. Plus, the exploits of legends such as Johnny Williams and Sammy Black sit alongside more modern greats, Kevin Hodges and Graham Coughlan.

All the articles are printed on luxury paper and independently cut and bound in a hardback book.

Now available with colour print option for coverage from 2006 onwards.
