From 1913 to the end of last season, this Preston North End Football Book follows the fortunes of one of football’s founding fathers, with everything from league titles to Tom Finney. But that's just the tip of the iceberg with this edition.
Since the team first formed in 1886, the Pilgrims have been storming the pitch, claiming many mammoth victories on the grounds of Home Park and away. Fans can now relive the last 100 years covering the team's greatest moments, featuring the highs and lows.
Using reprints of original newspaper reports, things begin with the Second Division title season of 1913, before tracking Preston’s so-called yoyo years prior to World War I. Further league successes would follow throughout the decades, in the old Second, Third and Fourth Divisions. All are included.
And as you’d expect, there’s also coverage of the club’s 1938 FA Cup win. Just as importantly, though, the Tom Finney legacy features too. Following World War II until his retirement in 1960, this footballing genius defined what a footballer should be – a maestro and a gentleman. Here’s your chance to relive it all.

Preston North End FC was a founder member of the Football League in 1888. The Lilywhites won the first ever league title without losing a match. No other team finished a top flight season unbeaten until Arsenal repeated this feat in 2004. In addition to winning the inaugural league championship in 1889, Preston won the FA Cup. The Lilywhites therefore became the first club to win the prestigious League-FA Cup ‘double’. Preston defended their league title in 1890 and finished as runners-up in the following three seasons. The Lilywhites were a real force in the game during the early years, but other teams improved and Preston was sadly relegated in 1901. The club has since won titles in each of the other three divisions. The Lilywhites have also reached further FA Cup finals, winning the trophy for the second time in 1964.
A Preston North End Gift Book can be an inspired present for a fan of the Lilywhites. It is unique, smartly presented and filled with fascinating newspaper reports on the history of the club. Being able to personalise this Preston Football Book makes the gift even more special and shows the thought that has gone into buying it. The present will also prove to be a terrific addition to a supporter’s Preston memorabilia collection.
This Preston North End Football Book opens with the club defeating Blackpool 2-1 to become the 1913 Division Two Champions. It goes on to cover a selection of great games through the decades of the 20th Century and many highlights from the present era.
Early stories in the Preston Football Book include beating Aston Villa 6-1 in 1920, the 4-0 defeat of Liverpool in 1952 and the 8-0 thrashing of Birmingham City in 1958. The Gift Books also revisit the glory of the club’s successful FA Cup runs, including the historic victory in 1938, when Preston North End won the FA Cup by beating Huddersfield Town 1-0 at Wembley Stadium, plus the finals of 1922, 1937, 1954 and 1964. Read about the last game of the 1953 season, when Preston beat Derby County, but lost the league title to Arsenal on goal difference. The Preston Books also contain reports on Ton Finney’s final game in 1960, Nobby Stiles signing for £20,000 in 1973, his appointment as the Lilywhites’ manager in 1977 and Bobby Charlton’s resignation in 1975. More recent newspaper content in this Gift Book includes Preston winning the Division Three title in 1996 and becoming Champions of Division Two in 2000.
Newspaper coverage continues right up to the end of last season. This unique insight into Preston North End’s history makes these books truly memorable gifts and a great addition for a collector of Preston memorabilia.
