Rangers FC won the inaugural Scottish league title in 1891. The Glaswegian club has since gone on to win over fifty Scottish Championships, which is a record in world football. The Gers have also won more than fifty domestic cups, making Rangers the most successful team in the history of Scottish football. Rangers enjoyed success in Europe in the 1960s. The Gers became the first British side to reach the final of the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1961 and they reached the final again in 1967. Rangers finally won the European Cup in 1972, beating Dynamo Moscow 3-2. The 1970s was a terrific period for the Gers domestically as well as on the continent. They won the last (old style) Scottish league title in 1975 to break the nine year dominance of bitter rival Celtic. Rangers consolidated this victory in the following season by winning the first ever Scottish Premier League title. Rangers also won their third ‘treble’ in 1976 and they accomplished a fourth ‘treble’ in 1978. The Gers dominated Scottish football again in the 1990s and this success continued into the new millennium. Rangers became the first Scottish side to reach the UEFA Cup final in 2008.
