Personalised Recipes from 1950s Newspapers - Gift Details
Look back on the food history of the ‘50s with our Recipes and Cookery Ideas from 1950s Newspaper Book. During a time of prolific rationing from the 1940s until 1954, this handy book of recipes gives you a unique window on how the people of this challenging culture dealt with pressures of the war, even after its end in 1945.
From seasoned 'Spiced Semolina Loaf', to mouth-watering 'French Cheese Pudding', digest and learn about the variety of food that began with rationing from the ‘40s and glided into hearty, homely meals in 1954.
From 1954 onwards, it’s as if papers transitioned into a whole new decade! Newspapers sought to maintain a positive environment for their readers and the pages of this book reflect this ideal. With the cheerful aid of Patsy, invented by the Daily Mirror, the cartoon strips produced a more imaginative and creative approach to rationing for the quirky housewife.
From health and beauty advice for fabulous housewives to uphold their grand presence, the recipes of this decade were aimed at the domestic goddess. Having absolutely no embellishments or adjustments, this book mirrors the condition of the newspaper as it was first printed, including original adverts and tips for the reader - let someone reminisce on the curious tastes of the ‘50s with this lovely gift.
