(Lives In) player is toast of Britain

A hush fell across Centre Court at Wimbledon this afternoon, followed by a rapturous standing ovation as a British champion, (Female First Name) (Female Surname), finally broke this country’s drought and returned Wimbledon Women’s Singles Champion after three decades.

Tears were visible on the cheeks of spectators as new champion (Female Surname), (Age), romped home in the third set to clinch victory after a nail biting 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 match.

“This was an amazing finish”, said one jubilant commentator, pointing out at a sea of waving foam hands, Union Jacks, and spilt strawberries and cream. “It has been a truly emotional day for the crowd, and (Female First Name) showed us just what she is made of – she delivered some of the most electrifying tennis I’ve ever seen.”

Meanwhile, an umpire suggested that (Female First Name) should be given a more lasting accolade - “I think Henman Hill should be renamed (Female Surname) mountain, pyramid, universe – I’ll leave the naming up to the fans themselves”, he said, clearly carried away by the emotions of the day.

Receiving a cheque for £850,000, the new champion said, “I really can’t believe that I’m here - and that I’ve come out as Singles Champion – I have dreamt of this day all my life.”

Anyone watching this victory cannot deny that Wimbledon and its Venus Rosewater dish mean the world to (Female First Name), and as the new champion was carried out on the shoulders of cheering fans, one thing is for certain - this is a day that British tennis will never forget.
